Where to Donate in Eagle River

This is a list of organizations that accept donations of sellable items. Sellable donations allow these organizations to better serve residents of the Anchorage Bowl and surrounding communities. Due to limited funding, reducing non-sellable donations helps lower garbage costs and keeps staff focused on their programs.

Non-sellable items include:
Clothing with stains, burns, tears, animal hair, broken zippers, or missing buttons; items requiring repair; damaged non-clothing items; items with stains or animal hair; and items that cannot be sold due to size or liability (such as TVs over 32”). Non-sellable clothing may be donated to Newborns In Need for reuse (see Craft Items below).

Scheduled pick-ups accept household items but no large appliances, mattresses, or sofas.


Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center

Accepts new greeting cards, office supplies, crossword puzzle books, and seasonal décor for Easter, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Fourth of July (no Christmas, fall, or Halloween décor).
Also accepts home décor and Alaska-themed items for their gift shop.
Medical equipment accepted includes wheelchairs, walkers, toilet risers, crutches, and shower chairs.


Hiland Mountain Correctional Center

Drop-off: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. (office)

Accepts women’s clothing in all sizes for individuals leaving the facility, including casual clothing, shoes, winter boots, coats, gloves, hats, and scarves.
Craft and program needs: cotton fabric, yarn, sewing machines and supplies, beads, sheet music, musical instruments, pianos, garden supplies, and plant pots for their annual plant sale.

Donations are accepted the first and last Saturday of each month, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., at the church gym (enter from the lower parking lot and follow signs).
Funds raised support local and worldwide missions after expenses are covered.


Value Village Donation Sites (GreenDrop)

For-profit organization

Accepts donations of used clothing and household items daily from 10 a.m.–6 p.m.


Cell Phone Donations

Cell phones can be recycled or sold at EcoATM kiosks located in Carrs, Fred Meyer, Walmart, or Best Buy.
If devices are too old to sell, Best Buy accepts up to three items per day for recycling.


Craft Item Donations: Newborns In Need

Accepts fabric, yarn, sewing, knitting, and quilting supplies to create blankets, changing mats, laundry bags, carry bags, bibs, hats, gloves, and booties. Can repurpose sheets and wedding dresses.
Also accepts gently used baby clothes, blankets, diaper bags, and new diapers and washcloths.
No furniture.


Hiland Mountain Correctional Center (Craft Program)

Accepts quilting supplies. Proceeds from quilt sales support the program. (See contact info above.)

Book Donations

Books may be donated to Value Village, libraries, senior centers, small church libraries, or laundromats.
For Eagle River–related historical books, contact the Chugiak-Eagle River Historical Society at (907) 688-4706.
In Anchorage, books may also be donated to Salvation Army, Goodwill, retirement homes, or local theaters.


Eyeglass Donations

These are some collection points for the local Lions/vision recycling effort that sends glasses on to the Lions eyeglass recycling center)
