Where to Donate in the Mat-su Valley

This is a list of organizations that accept donations of sellable items. Sellable donations help these organizations serve residents of the Mat-Su Valley. Due to limited funding, reducing non-sellable donations helps lower garbage costs and allows staff to focus on community programs.

Non-sellable items include:
Clothing with stains, burns, tears, animal hair, broken zippers, or missing buttons; items requiring repair; damaged non-clothing items; items with stains or animal hair; and items that cannot be sold due to size or liability (such as TVs over 32”). Non-sellable clothing may be donated to Newborns In Need for reuse (see Craft Items below).


The Arc of Anchorage (Services the Mat-Su Valley)

Offers donation pick-up for gently used books, clothing, housewares, small electronics, and toys.
No furniture, medical equipment, or mattresses.
Drop-off bins are available throughout Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley for bagged clothing, handbags, shoes, and other cloth items only.
The Arc partners with Value Village, but donating directly to The Arc generates approximately 90% more income for their programs.


Bishop’s Attic II

Donation drop-off boxes are located at Three Bears (Palmer), St. Michael’s Parish (Palmer), and Sacred Heart Parish (Wasilla).
Donation pick-up is available by phone or online request.
Store hours: Mon–Sat 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sun 11 a.m.–4 p.m.


Family First Treasures

Accepts gently used goods for their thrift store, which supports Alaska Family Services programs.
No furniture or large items.
Donation drop-off: Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.


Food Bank of Alaska

Accepts and distributes food and household products to nonprofit agencies.
Wasilla drop-off location: Red barrel inside Allen & Petersen Cooking Center, 990 S Hermon Rd.
Expired canned food is accepted.


Mat-Su Valley Rebuild

Diverts used and surplus building materials from the waste stream and recirculates them into community use.
Accepts clean, complete items including electrical supplies, flooring, hardware, kitchen and bath items, landscaping materials, lumber, trim, siding, roofing, and gutters.

My House Mat-Su (Steam Driven Boutique)

Steam Driven is a boutique owned by MY House, supporting homeless teens.
Accepts household items and most furniture.
Clothing donations are preferred for ages 14–24.


Thrifters Rock

Nonprofit thrift store run primarily by volunteers to support local ministry and global missions.
Accepts clothing, household goods, and furniture.

Donation bins are located throughout the Mat-Su Valley.
Note: Value Village is a for-profit organization.


Craft Item Donations

Project Linus – Accepts finished blankets or blanket-making materials (fabric, batting, thread).

Newborns In Need – Accepts fabric, yarn, sewing, knitting, and quilting supplies. Can repurpose sheets and wedding dresses. Also accepts gently used infant clothing, blankets, diaper bags, and new diapers and washcloths.
No furniture.

Book Donations

Books may be donated to Goodwill, Value Village, local libraries, senior centers, small church libraries, or laundromats.
Historical books may also be donated to local theaters or museums for use as props or displays.


Medical Supplies

Thrifters Rock – Accepts crutches and wheelchairs.
Turn A Leaf – Accepts pads, bandages, and other medical supplies (no crutches or wheelchairs).


Eyeglass Donations

Palmer Lions Club

Accepts new or secondhand eyeglasses, repairs them if needed, and distributes them through their programs.
